VERMOUTH

VERMOUTH

Derived from the French pronunciation of ‘wermut’ (the German word for ‘wormwood’), this aperitif is essentially fortified white wine - with unaged Brandy being the fortifier.  Because it is essentially white wine, it should be stored in a cooler once opened! Vermouths are divided into two distinct categories: dry and sweet.

DRY

Also known as ‘French Vermouth’ because that’s where it originated, you’ll always find this in a green bottle, no matter which brand you choose.  It’s white wine fortified with unaged brandy, and the French still sip it on the rocks.

SWEET

Also known as ‘Italian Vermouth’, the difference here is the addition of herbs (which gives it that distinctive reddish hue), and sugar for sweetness.  You’ll always find this in a red bottle, no matter which brand you choose.
