Scorpio Season Cocktails: Two Drinks for the Zodiac's Most Intense Sign
Scorpio season runs October 23 to November 21, and if you've ever dated, worked with or been raised by a Scorpio, you already know the vibe. Intense. Magnetic. Loyal to the bone. Will absolutely remember what you said in 2019.
A sign like that doesn't want a vodka soda. It wants something dark, a little mysterious, and built with intention. So we picked two: one for the Scorpio who sips alone at the end of the bar, and one for the Scorpio who secretly loves a crowd.
The solo Scorpio: Shanghai Tea
This is a slow, moody stirred drink. Cognac brings the depth, pomegranate brings the deep red color, and green tea keeps it from getting heavy. It's the cocktail equivalent of a long, meaningful stare across a candlelit room.
1½ oz cognac
1 oz chilled green tea
¾ oz pomegranate liqueur
½ oz sweet vermouth (a spiced one if you have it)
¼ oz fresh lime juice
Orange peel, for the twist
Add everything to a mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir for about 30 seconds. Strain over one big cube in a rocks glass. Squeeze the orange peel over the top so the oils mist the surface, then drop it in.
Bartender notes:
Brew the tea strong and cool it fully. Warm tea melts your ice and you'll end up with a watery drink. Brew it a little stronger than you'd drink it, since the stir adds water too.
Why stir and not shake? Shaking adds air and cloudiness. A stirred drink stays silky and clear, which suits a Scorpio. They don't like to show everything at once.
One big cube melts slower than a handful of small ones, so the last sip tastes like the first.
The social Scorpio: the Scorpion Bowl
Here's the twist. Scorpios have a reputation for being private, but get one comfortable and they'll throw the best party of the year. The Scorpion Bowl is a tiki-era punch built for sharing: one big bowl, a handful of long straws, and everyone leaning in. It serves four.
10 oz rum
2 oz cognac
3 oz orgeat (almond syrup)
4 oz fresh lemon juice
3 oz fresh orange juice
Blend everything with about a cup of crushed ice for a few seconds, just until it's frothy and cold. Pour into a large bowl over fresh ice, add four straws, and garnish however dramatic you're feeling: an orchid, a lime wheel, a sprig of mint.
Bartender notes:
Squeeze your citrus fresh. This is the single biggest upgrade for any punch. Bottled juice tastes flat next to the real thing, and in a drink this size you'll taste the difference in every sip.
Orgeat is the secret weapon. It adds a nutty, floral sweetness that ties the rum and citrus together. If anyone at your party has a nut allergy, swap in simple syrup and tell them before they sip.
Remember it's a share. Ten ounces of rum is a lot of drink. It's built for four people over a long conversation, not one person in a hurry.
What your Scorpio is really telling you
Both drinks follow the same rule bartenders live by: balance. Strong, sweet and sour in the right proportions, with the right amount of dilution. The Shanghai Tea gets there with a slow stir. The Scorpion Bowl gets there with fresh citrus and ice. Learn that balance once and you can make almost any drink, for any sign.
And if your Scorpio is the one planning this year's office holiday party, they already know a party is better when everyone's shaking and stirring together. Our hosts run a hands-on cocktail class at our SF bar, a partner venue or your office (or virtually, with kits shipped to remote teammates), with zero-proof menus for anyone not drinking. Your team leaves with a new skill and a better story than the usual dinner.
Tag the Scorpio in your life, then book your holiday party before December fills up.
